Telangana Flood: PM Modi Assures Support As 9 Die Amid Rain Fury, 19 Districts Face Flash Flood Threat

Telangana Flood: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah pledged central assistance as incessant rains have triggered flash flood warnings and disrupted normal life.

Telangana MLA Yashaswini Reddy consoled the people affected by flash floods. She inspected the damaged roads and advised officials to explore alternative routes.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah held discussions with the Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, assessing the severe flood situation impacting both states. They assured that all possible Central assistance would be provided to the flood-hit areas. Telangana, in particular, has been severely affected by incessant rains, with Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy instructing the entire government machinery to remain on high alert as the death toll in rain-related incidents is reported to be nine.

• PM Modi spoke to Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu and Telangana CM Revanth Reddy and enquired about the situation in these states in the wake of heavy rains and floods. He assured all possible assistance from the Centre to overcome this challenge, news agency PTI reported.
  
  
• Amit Shah assured all possible help from the Union government to deal with rains and floods during his call to Naidu and Reddy, news agency ANI reported. The Telangana Chief Minister apprised Shah of the damage caused by the heavy rains and flooding, a CMO release informed Sunday night. Revanth Reddy also elabourated about the measures being taken by the state government to prevent loss of life.
  
  
•  Nine persons died in separate rain-related incidents as heavy downpours continued in many parts of the state including Hyderabad, PTI reported. 
  
  
• The Telangana government has issued a flash flood risk warning for 19 districts, urging citizens to stay indoors unless necessary. A low to moderate flash flood risk is predicted over Ranga Reddy, Hyderabad, Medchal, Vikarabad and Sangareddy districts.

• Chief Minister Revanth Reddy conducted an emergency review meeting with ministers, officials, and elected members on Sunday. He personally reached out to ministers including Bhatti Vikramarka, N Uttam Kumar Reddy, Tummala Nageshwar Rao, Damodara Raja Narasimha, and Jupalli Krishna Rao to monitor relief operations in the affected areas, according to PTI.
  
  
• The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red warning, forecasting very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in districts such as Adilabad, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Kamareddy, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, Jogulamba Gadwal, Mahbubabad, and Jangaon from Sunday morning until the next day. Hyderabad and its surrounding districts have also been experiencing continuous downpours, leading to significant waterlogging in many parts of the city.

• Heavy rains have disrupted train services across the South Central Railway (SCR), with several trains cancelled, partially cancelled, or diverted. A significant incident occurred when a portion of gravel under the railway track near Kesamudram in Mahabubabad district was washed away, leaving passengers stranded at Kesamudram railway station.

• In the wake of the heavy rainfall, rivulets and streams in several districts have swelled, cutting off road links between villages and further paralysing normal life. The water level in the Godavari River at Bhadrachalam in Bhadradri Kothagudem district continued to rise, reaching 27 feet on Sunday morning.

• In Warangal district, passengers of a Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) bus had to spend the night in the vehicle after floodwaters submerged the road near Topanapalli, PTI reported.
  
  In Kodad town of Suryapet district, two cars and an autorickshaw were swept away by floodwaters, with one man's body found in one of the cars. The fate of the other passengers remains unknown.

• Dr Nunavath Ashwini, a promising young scientist from the ICAR – National Institute of Biotic Stress Management in Raipur, lost her life after being swept away by floodwaters in Telangana, India Today reported. Dr Ashwini, along with her father, Nunawat Motilal, residents of Gangaram Thanda in Singareni Mandal, Khammam district, were en route to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad when disaster struck.
  
  Their car was swept away by the overflowing Akeruvagu stream near Purushothamaiahgudem in Maripeda Mandal. The stream, swollen from the incessant rains, had breached a bridge, causing their vehicle to plunge into the rushing waters.

  In a final call to friends and family, Dr Ashwini and her father described how water was rapidly rising inside their car, trapping them with no means of escape. The call abruptly ended, leaving their loved ones in a state of uncertainty. After hours of frantic searching, rescue teams discovered Dr Ashwini’s body near the Akeruvagu Bridge on Sunday, according to India Today. Efforts are ongoing to locate her father, Motilal, who remains missing.

• The Disaster Management Department has activated a special control room at the State Secretariat, with the phone number 040-23454088, to monitor the situation and coordinate rescue operations. In addition to this, the Chief Minister has instructed all district Collectors, Superintendents of Police, and officials from the Revenue, Irrigation, and Municipal departments to conduct field visits in flood-hit areas and to provide immediate relief measures. 
  
  
• The Telangana Development Planning Society reported that Huzurnagar in Suryapet district experienced the highest rainfall, recording 299.8 mm between 8:30 p.m. on Saturday and 6:00 a.m. on Sunday. Inugurthy in Mahabubabad district followed closely with 298 mm, while Chilkur in Suryapet district received 297.8 mm of rainfall. Additionally, several areas across Mahabubabad, Khammam, and Suryapet districts reported rainfall ranging from 277 to 296 mm.
  
  
• Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant, especially those in low-lying areas, and to contact emergency services if assistance is needed. The Chief Minister has also appealed to the public not to leave their homes unless absolutely necessary.
