Telangana: Excise Department Seizes 170 Kg Of Ganja In Major Drug Bust In Hyderabad
The police detained all the individuals involved in the smuggling module, seizing two vehicles, 170 kg of ganja, and eight mobile phones in the process.
Telangana Excise Department seized a significant haul of 170 kilograms of ganja at Pedda Amberpet in Hyderabad on Saturday. Acting on a tip-off regarding the transportation of ganja from Odisha to Maharashtra, the police intercepted the smugglers, resulting in a major bust. According to Excise Enforcement Joint Director Khureshi, eight individuals have been arrested in connection with the case.
Telangana Joint Commissioner of Prohibition and Excise, SY Qureshi, provided details of the operation, stating, "170 kg of ganja was seized in the Pedamberpet area of Hyderabad. The ganja was being transported from Orissa to Maharashtra. Eight people have been arrested in this case, of which five are from Maharashtra and three from Malkangiri." He further identified Ismail, a resident of Odisha, as the primary accused and the main orchestrator of the smuggling operation. Authorities successfully captured all the individuals involved in the smuggling module, seizing two vehicles, 170 kg of ganja, and eight mobile phones in the process.

The seized ganja is estimated to be worth Rs 34 lakh. The arrested individuals are currently in custody, and a Special Court in Bengaluru has granted the Enforcement Directorate (ED) custody of the four accused for four days, allowing further interrogation and investigation.
In a related incident, the Government Railway Police (GRP) in Secunderabad dismantled an interstate ganja smuggling racket operating between Phulbani district of Odisha and Surat, Gujarat. The officials seized 18.45 kg of ganja worth Rs 4.61 lakh, indicating a larger network of smuggling operations between these states.
