Telangana: 9 Students Bitten By Rats At Girls Hostel Of Govt Residential School In Medak

The incident occurred when the students were attacked by rats while they were asleep in their hostel rooms.

Nine students were bitten by rats at a government residential school for girls in Medak district, Telangana. The class 9 students were attacked by the rodents while they were asleep in their hostel room on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, an official reported on Thursday, as reported by PTI.

Following the incident, the affected students received treatment at a primary health center in Ramayampet mandal and were subsequently discharged. The official assured that steps are being taken to address the rat infestation and prevent further occurrences.

The incident has prompted several parents to visit the institute and voice their concerns over the alleged lack of cleanliness and maintenance at the hostel.

This rat attack follows closely on the heels of another alarming episode in Medak, where 35 students fell ill after discovering a lizard in their breakfast at a government hostel.

The students from TG Model School in Ramayampet suffered from vomiting and diarrhea after consuming the contaminated meal. In response, the cook and assistant cook were terminated for negligence, and show-cause notices were issued to the hostel caretaker and the Special Officer, according to the Medak District Educational Officer (DEO).

These incidents have raised serious concerns about the living conditions and food safety standards in the government school hostels.

Meanwhile, a resident of Hyderabad has approached the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to address the "appalling" state of government-run schools in the region, as reported by Telangana Today. In his complaint filed on July 2, Sravan Vurappali highlighted that the conditions in these schools are "detrimental" to the well-being and educational progress of the students.

Stating that these schools lacked infrastructure including toilets, drinking water facilities, he alleged that these conditions posed a health risk to the students and teachers.
