On Friday, Armstrong was hacked to death by a group of men donning the T-shirt of food aggregators in Perambur. He was immediately rushed to Apollo Hospital, Greams Road for treatment. However, doctors declared him dead.

His brother Veeramani also sustained injuries in the violent attack.

Following this, Chennai police started the investigation and suspected the involvement of associates of gangster Arcot Suresh who was murdered in August last year.

Till now, Tamil Nadu police have arrested eight men who surrendered on the night of the murder on July 5. They also detained three others. Though initial investigations suggest that previous enmity might be the motive behind the murder, Armstrong's family has refused to accept this explanation.

On the murder of Tamil Nadu BSP chief K Armstrong, DMK spokesperson Saravanan Annadurai said, "The culprits were nabbed. A full probe is on and it will reveal who was behind it. Tamil Nadu police are on the job."

Earlier, BSP chief Mayawati, however, criticised the DMK government, stating that it is not taking the case seriously otherwise the accused would have been arrested by now. She urged CM Stalin to ensure justice for Armstrong and transfer the investigation to the CBI.
