Is DMK Govt's 2-Day Global Muthamizh Murugan Conference In Palani A Move To Shed Off 'Anti-Hindu' Tag?

The Global Muthamizh Murugan Conference is set to feature variety of activities such as seminars, exhibitions, photo galleries and 3D shows that highlight the six sacred abodes of Lord Muruga.

The Global Muthamizh Murugan Conference was officially inaugurated at Palani by Tamil Nadu Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Minister Sekar Babu and State Minister R. Sakkarapani on Saturday. The two-day event, held in the sacred town of Palani, is dedicated to celebrating and exploring the cultural and spiritual significance of Lord Muruga.

The event commenced with the traditional lighting of the ceremonial lamp, performed by spiritual leaders including Kundrakudi Ponnampala Adikal, Perur Adheenam Santhalinga Marudachala Adigal, and Mayilam Adheenam. Following this, the ministers hoisted a specially designed flag adorned with a rooster, peacock, and spear—symbols closely associated with Lord Muruga.

The conference is set to be a vibrant gathering, featuring a variety of activities such as seminars, exhibitions, photo galleries, and immersive 3D shows that highlight the six sacred abodes of Lord Muruga. A diverse group of over 1,300 participants is expected to present research papers across five different seminars, contributing to the event's scholarly atmosphere.

In addition to the academic and spiritual discussions, attendees will receive special prasadam bags, which include the renowned Panchamirtham, a sacred offering from the Palani Temple.

Global Muthamizh Murugan Conference: An Attempt To Remove 'Anti-Hindu' Tag?

The DMK Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin made headlines for his remark on 'Sanatan Dharma'. The controversy started after Udhaynidhi alleged that 'Sanatan Dharma' was against equality and social justice and that it should be "eradicated". He also likened 'Sanatan Dharma' to coronavirus, malaria, and dengue fever and said such things should not be opposed but destroyed.

Even earlier, DMK was known for its "atheist" beliefs.

The conference's official website emphasises the global significance of Murugan worship, stating, "Lord Murugan is venerated with profound respect in many countries, including India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, and beyond. This conference aims to bring together devotees and scholars from around the world to deepen their understanding and connection with Lord Muruga."

However, the event is not without its challenges. Local shopkeepers, vendors, and residents near the Sri Dhandayuthapani Swamy Temple at the base of Palani hill have announced a black flag protest to draw the attention of the State government to their ongoing issues on August 24 and 25.
