Bridge Washes Away After Heavy Rain In Meghalaya's South Garo Hills Region | WATCH

The IMD has warned of continuous heavy rainfall from June 9 to June 13 across Meghalaya.

A video of a bridge being washed away in Meghalaya amid incessant rainfall that has led to flooding has gone viral on social media. The bridge over the Bugi river connected Jijika to Megua in the South Garo Hills region. Bugi is said to be the third-biggest river in Garo Hills.

The IMD has warned of continuous heavy rainfall from June 9 to June 13 across Meghalaya. Extremely heavy rainfall is predicted over Arunachal Pradesh and Assam as well over the next few days. Arunachal Pradesh will receive more than 204.5 mm rainfall on June 10-11, the IMD said.

The IMD further said that monsoon was progressing normally in the country and was likely to reach Maharashtra in the next two days.

Senior IMD scientist R K Jenamani said monsoon touched the Kerala coast on May 29 and covered south and central Arabian Sea, Kerala, parts of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu and the entire northeast between May 31 and June 7.

"There is no delay in the progress of the monsoon. It is likely to reach Maharashtra in the next two days and cover Mumbai in the subsequent two days," PTI quoted Jenamani as saying.

A wave of floods last month caused severe destruction in Assam last month, killing 30 people. Intense pre-monsoon rain and flooding caused massive damage to the state's infrastructure, including bridges, roads and railway tracks.

According to Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), at least 5,61,149 people, including 1,13,139 children of 956 villages, were affected in 12 of the state's 34 districts.
