6 Rounds Fired, Pistol Jammed — Mumbai Police Reveals Details Of Abhishek Ghosalkar's Murder
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Abhishek Ghosalkar was shot dead by his alleged enemy and social activist Mauris Noronha in Borivali, suburban Mumbai.
The Mumbai Crime Branch on Friday made some revelations pertaining to the murder of Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Abhishek Ghosalkar, day after he was shot dead by his alleged enemy and social activist Mauris Noronha in Borivali in suburban Mumbai. Mauris Noronha later died by suicide. Abhishek Ghosalkar was the son of Vinod Ghosalkar.
The Mumbai Crime Branch said that Mauris Noronha fired five bullets at Abhishek Ghosalkar and after completing his target he tried to shoot himself but the pistol did not fire after which he went to the upper floor and loaded the bullet into the poistol and shot himself within 25 seconds.
"After shooting 5 bullets at Abhishek Ghosalkar, accused Maurice stood at the door and kept looking at him for 3-4 seconds. After completing his target, he tried to shoot himself there, but the pistol did not fire. After this, he went to the upper floor. Above, he loaded the bullet into the pistol and shot himself within 25 seconds," the Crime Branch said, as quoted by news agency ANI.
Abhishek Ghosalkar Murder Case: Top Points
- The Crime Branch said that a total of 6 rounds were fired, out of which 5 were fired at Abhishek Ghosalkar and one by Maurice on himself, ANI reported.
- Mauris Noronha's bodyguard, Amarendra Mishra, had the pistol licence issued by the Phulpur Police of Prayagraj, UP, in 2003, and the expiry date of that licence was February 2026, it added. "Amarendra Mishra was working as a bodyguard at Maurice's place for the last 3 months; his pistol was used by both himself and Maurice. Amarendra Mishra used to keep his pistol in the locker of Maurice's office; yesterday also, he kept his pistol in the same locker, and Maurice took out the pistol from the same locker and fired at Abhishek Ghosalkar. At the time when this firing took place, Amarendra Mishra was not there," the crime branch said, as quoted by ANI.
- The bodyguard has been arrested under Section 29(B) of the Arms Act, which deals with the offence of handing over a weapon to someone without ascertaining if the person is legally permitted to possess it, news agency PTI reported.
- On Friday, the Mumbai Crime Branch formed two teams to investigate the murder of Ghosalkar, reported news agency PTI.
- While one team headed by an inspector rank official is probing the murder of the Shiv Sena (UBT) leader, the second team is investigating the "accidental" death of the accused, Mauris Noronha, a police official said.
- According to PTI, the Crime Branch probe will focus on various aspects of the murder case, including how Mauris got the weapon and who provided it to him, if he was intoxicated at the time of the incident, and will also question the people who were present at the spot when Mauris shot Ghosalkar.
