Tremors Felt In Wayanad? District Administration Begins Evacuation In Nenmeni Panchayat

Wayanad Tremor: District Collector D.R. Meghasree confirmed that the administration has begun relocating people from the affected residential areas as a precautionary step.

A loud noise accompanied by a jolt have created panic of tremors in several wards of the Nenmeni gram panchayat in Wayanad, Kerala, earlier on Thursday. The jolt have prompted local authorities to initiate an evacuation process as a precautionary measure.

The incident occurred around 9:00 AM, and the Vythiri revenue authorities responded by advising residents to temporarily vacate the area, according to a report on Mathrubhumi. Schools in the affected region have declared a holiday to ensure the safety of students.

Despite the reports of tremors, the State Emergency Operation Centre has informed that seismic records do not currently show any significant movements in the area, as per a report on Manorama. However, District Collector D.R. Meghasree confirmed that the administration has begun relocating people from the affected residential areas as a precautionary step.

The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) stated that they are reviewing seismic records and conducting local reconnaissance to identify any anomalies.

"As of now seismic records do not show any indications of movements," it said, as reported by PTI.

The situation is being closely monitored by the authorities, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
