Shan also attacked Althaf's mother Safiya, her mother Sainaba and Althaf's sister Ashni. Safiya and Sainaba were admitted to hospital in a critical condition in Kolenchery and their conditions are improving.
Shan broke into Safiya's house at 3 AM through a back door and started attacking Althaf and Safiya with a hammer. In the impact, Althaf died on the spot while Safiya sustained serious injuries.
He then went to Sainaba's house in the vicinity and hit her with a hammer. He dragged Ashni who was sleeping with her grandmother to the home of Safiya and beat her for nearly two hours. The accused has sexually abused the girl in a nearby shed and planned to escape with her, the police said on Monday. The police have filed a POCSO case against him.
Shan and his wife were living separately and Shan suspected the role of his mother-in-law and Safiya to be behind their separation and therefore plotted the murder. The aunt sent him out of the home last week. However, the accused has another wife and children.
