Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) sources indicated that the engine caught fire when the driver turned on the ignition on MG Road. Initial assessments suggest that the engine overheated, leading to the blaze, according to a report on NDTV.

The incident occurred as the bus was traveling from the Koramangala depot and passing near Anil Kumble Circle on MG Road. As soon as the engine caught fire, the driver promptly stopped the bus and evacuated the 30 passengers onboard. Fortunately, all passengers were safely removed without any injuries, as per a report on India TV.

Fire department teams arrived promptly at the scene and brought the fire under control. The timely response of the driver and the quick action of the firefighters prevented any casualties.

The Senior BMTC officials are currently at the site, conducting a thorough investigation into the cause of the fire. They are expected to take proper action once the report is ready.

In April 2024, a private sleeper bus caught fire close to the Kempegowda bus station in the city center. The incident occurred near Amar Hotel around 6:30 pm when the stationary bus suddenly ignited. Passersby promptly notified the fire station, and two fire tenders were rushed to extinguish the blaze. Despite their efforts, the bus was extensively charred by the time the flames were under control. Fortunately, the bus driver, conductor, and cleaner had safely evacuated and were outside the vehicle.
