Karnataka: HD Kumaraswamy Urges Nephew Prajwal Revanna To 'Come Back To India, Cooperate With Probe'

Prajwal Revanna is accused of sexual assault and is currently hiding abroad. A court has issued an arrest warrant for him and Interpol has issued a Blue Corner Notice.

New Delhi: Former Karnataka chief minister HD Kumaraswamy urged his nephew, Prajwal Revanna, who is currently abroad following his involvement in a sexual assault case, to return to India and cooperate with the investigating authorities. "Come back to India and cooperate with the investigation. How long will this 'police and thief' game continue?" news agency PTI reported Kumaraswamy as saying.

Prajwal Revanna, the 33-year-old grandson of former Prime Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) patriarch HD Deve Gowda, is currently in hiding in a foreign country as the Karnataka government established a Special Investigation Team to look into the case.

A court has issued an arrest warrant for him, while Interpol has issued a Blue Corner Notice to gather information on his whereabouts.

Arrest Warrant Against Prajwal Revenna, Father HD Revanna

On Sunday, a special court for MPs and MLAs issued an arrest warrant against Prajwal in a case that also implicates his father, HD Revanna, who is also accused in the case, is currently out on bail.

He had previously spent seven days in jail and underwent four-day police custody for his alleged involvement in the kidnapping of a woman.

Three cases of sexual assault have been filed by three women against Prajwal, the NDA's candidate for the Hassan Lok Sabha seat, who is currently evading authorities. Trouble started for Prajwal after a large number of explicit videos showing women being sexually assaulted allegedly by him became public.

Following recommendations from Nagalakshmi Chowdhary, Chairperson of the Karnataka State Commission for Women, the Karnataka government established a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the allegations of atrocities against women involving Prajwal.

On Saturday, HD Deve Gowda broke his silence on the case, saying, "I don't want to comment on things that are going on in the court regarding Revanna. Prajwal Revanna has gone abroad, regarding that Kumaraswamy (Gowda's other son and state JD(S) chief) has on behalf of our family said it is the duty of the government to take action in accordance with the law of the land," he was quoted by PTI as saying.
