Jammu-Kashmir: Landslide In Ramban Damages Roads, Houses, Power Lines. Over 50 Families Affected

Affected villagers have been relocated to the safety of Panchayat Ghar, where the administration is providing essential support, including medical aid and food provisions.

New Delhi: Following the continuous landslides in Pernote Village of Ramban District that have inflicted widespread damage, ravaging roads, houses, and power lines, affected villagers have been relocated to the safety of Panchayat Ghar, where the administration is providing essential support, including medical aid and food provisions. With the situation under close scrutiny, authorities remain on high alert, monitoring developments closely to ensure the well-being of residents and to coordinate effective response efforts.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner of Ramban, Varunjeet Singh Charak, has provided an assessment of the situation, saying, "50-55 families have been affected and all houses in the 1km radius have been damaged- some fully while some partially. The families have been rescued with our prompt action and with the help of quick response teams. NDRF, SDRF, NGOs, and local volunteers have been helping us".

"Three TV towers have been damaged and the fourth one can also be damaged. Agriculture, horticulture, and allied activities have been affected... We had made a makeshift shelter but because of continuous rains, it has been rendered useless... We have requested the concerned departments to come here and study the causes of this disaster", Charak further informed, as reported by ANI.

More than 50 houses, four electricity towers, a receiving station, and a main road were damaged in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban district due to the sinking of a road, officials said on Friday.

The situation in Pernote village escalated on Thursday evening as houses began developing cracks, indicating further instability in the area. The severity heightened when the critical road link between Gool and Ramban snapped due to the sinking of land, exacerbating the isolation of the village, as per PTI.
