Manish Sisodia Bail: AAP Celebrates As Former Delhi Deputy CM All Set To Walk Out Of Jail After 18 Months

Manish Sisodia, former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, was granted bail by the SCon Thursday. AAP leaders called it a slap on the BJP government at the Centre.

The Aam Aadmi Party broke into celebrations as former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia secured bail from the Supreme Court in the excise policy case for he was imprisoned for nearly 18 months. The Supreme Court on Friday said that denial of bail cannot be a form of punishment. "It is high time the courts realise that bail is a rule and jail is an exception," Justice BR Gavai said.

The Supreme Court has, however, asked Sisodia to surrender his passport. Manish Sisodia's advocate, Rishikesh Kumar, said, "The Supreme Court has granted bail to Manish Sisodia. The Court has also raised questions about the ED's investigation process."

Reacting to the judgment, AAP MP Sanjay Singh said it was a "victory of truth". He said the BJP had wasted 17 months of Manish Sisodia's life, time which could have been spent to build schools for Delhi children. "This is the victory of truth. As I said earlier, there was no truth or evidence in this case. Our leaders were forcibly put in jail. Manish Sisodia was kept in jail for 17 months... I thank the Supreme Court that we got justice and the decision has come in AAP's favour and every worker is excited. I pray to God that Arvind Kejriwal and Satyendra Jain also come out of jail soon. This is a slap on the dictatorship of the central government."

As soon as the bail order was announced, Sanjay Singh distributed sweets to AAP supporters who had gathered at his residence.

AAP MP Raghav Chadha said that Manish Sisodia Manish was punished for giving a better future to the children of the poor. "The whole country is happy today after Manish Sisodia ji, the hero of Delhi's education revolution, got bail. I express my gratitude to the honourable Supreme Court from the bottom of my heart. Manish ji was kept behind the bars of the jail for 530 days. His crime was that he gave a better future to the children of the poor. Dear children, your Manish uncle is coming back," Raghav Chadha posted on X.

Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann, too, said the bail order was a "victory of the truth".

Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal said: "I am very happy with Manish ji's release. I hope he will now take the lead and steer the government in the right direction."
