Presumed Dead For Over 15 Yrs, Amateur Radio Club Traces Bengal Woman As Living In Rajasthan
The woman, earlier Najmunar Khatun, now Rupa Mondal was found in Rajasthan. She will soon be reunited with her family after over 15 years.
A woman hailing from West Bengal who was presumed dead for more than 15 years has now been found alive and happily married in Rajasthan. The woman will be soon reunited with her family due to the efforts of an amateur radio club. The Secretary of West Bengal Radio Club, Ambarish Nag Biswas, while talking to the news agency PTI said that he recently got a call from a person who claimed to be a journalist who narrated the story of a woman wanting to talk to her father.
Biswas said, “This person, confused after receiving the phone call from the woman, did not know what to do, and sought help from the radio club." The members of the club swung into action immediately and managed to speak to the said woman over call. They were then able to trace her location to Rajasthan.
He added, “The woman was a teenager when she reportedly got lost, and now she is around 27 years old. We contacted all our members with the description of the village the woman Najmunar Khatun (now Rupa Mondal) had given to the journalist along with her father’s name, and finally we were able to locate her family in the North 24 Parganas district’s Minakhan area.”
Members of the radio club then sent the image of the woman to her family members and then connected her with them through video conferencing.
The father of the woman while talking to PTI said, “My daughter now lives in Patona village in Rajasthan’s Karauli district, and is married to a Hindu man. She is now the mother of three children.” He added that his family has no problem whatsoever with the fact that she got married to a Hindu man.
He said, “I am happy that my daughter is alive and has a family. We will visit her in a couple of days and are making arrangements for the trip."
He told PTI that it was unclear as to how she went missing. He said, “I cannot say whether my daughter was a victim of trafficking."
The members of the radio club got in touch with their counterparts in Rajasthan and sought help from the local Mahabirji police station to gather more information about the woman and her husband.
The husband of the woman, Yogesh Kumar Naharwal, while talking to PTI said that he found the said woman sobbing at Delhi's Nizamuddin Railway Station around 12 years ago. He added that she could not provide any information about the place that she belonged to. She then accompanied him to Rajasthan. He said, “My mother and I have taken good care of her. I married her at my mother’s insistence... We have three children now. I am a simple man, have a small piece of land where I grow crops. I am a contractor, too."
