Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu convened an emergency meeting with officials to address the heavy rainfall affecting various parts of the state and to discuss strategies for minimizing the loss of life and property due to the adverse weather conditions. The Chief Minister conducted a teleconference with the Eluru district collector and superintendent of police on Thursday night.
"The CM directed officials to avert loss of life and cattle. Flood waters are likely to enter 15 villages in Andhra Pradesh and three in neighbouring Telangana," stated an official press release on Friday, as per a report on PTI. According to the state government, the Peddavagu stream in Eluru district is currently in spate, potentially leading to breaches at two locations.
Andhra Pradesh Rains: Rescue Operation Underway
The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) reported significant rainfall by 7 pm on Thursday, with Jangareddygudem and Koyyalagudem recording 137 mm and 111 mm, respectively. Mandapeta in Konaseema district logged 99 mm of rainfall. Other areas also experienced substantial rainfall, with Kadiyam and Nidadavolu in East Godavari district registering 92 mm and 91 mm, respectively. In total, 18 locations recorded heavy rainfall, while 85 reported moderate rainfall, as per the APSDMA, as per the report.
On Thursday, Eluru district officials successfully evacuated 25 people who were trapped near Kattamaisamma temple in Narayanapuram village, Telangana, due to rising floodwaters. Additionally, 11 individuals were rescued using an earthmover vehicle in Routhugudem village, Jeelugumilli mandal, while local villagers rescued five persons whose car was nearly washed away in the floodwaters of Kodisela canal, Velerupadu mandal.
The state government and disaster management teams are on high alert, continuously monitoring the situation and providing necessary support and resources to affected areas. Meanwhile, Indian Navy rescued 28 stranded individuals from Koyamandaram, located 250 km west of Visakhapatnam, despite challenging weather conditions.
