Women's World Boxing Championships: Nikhat continued to dominate the tournament, winning the first semi-final 5–0, with all the judges ruling in her favour in the last four rounds.

New Delhi: Indian female boxer Nikhat Zareen on Thursday created history after beating Thai Olympian Jutamas Jitpong 5-0 and becoming the fifth Indian woman to win a Women's World Championships title at Istanbul. Nikhat's dominance was seen throughout the fight, she started his bout by hitting a right-hand jab at the opposing boxer. Nikhat continued to dominate the tournament, winning the first semi-final 5–0, with all the judges ruling in her favour in the last four rounds. Now the same dominance was seen in the final as well.

The Telangana fighter out-punched her Thai adversary to win via a unanimous 5-0 decision.

With this success, Zareen turned out to be just the fifth Indian fighter to be crowned world champion.

Nikhat also won the bronze medal in the 2019 Asian Championship. Whereas in the semi-final match of the same tournament, she defeated Brazil's Caroline de Almeida 5-0.

25-year-old Nikhat is the fifth female boxer who has won a gold medal in the World Boxing Championship.

Six-time champion Mary Kom (2002, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2018) Sarita Devi (2006), Jenny RL (2006) and Lekha KC (2006) are different pugilists who have come out on top for the big showdown.

Aside from Zareen's gold, Manisha Moun (57kg) and debutant Parveen Hooda (63kg) will return home with bronze medals.

A 12-part Indian contingent was shipped off take an interest in the opposition and keeping in mind that the medal haul has diminished by one, an Indian has been delegated title holder following four years, Mary Kom had last won the gold in the 48kg in the 2018 edition.
