Wimbledon 2022: Jabeur's Dominance Continues As Women's Singles 1st Round Produces Epic Matches

Wimbledon 2022 Women's Singles 1st round is off to a flyer as underdogs show character on a action-packed day

Wimbledon 2022: The 1st round of Women’s Singles was off to a stellar start as there were few upsets and many hard-fought battles at the display. The biggest shock of the day was when Czech Republic player Marie Bouzkova was stunned by 7th seeded US player Danielle Collins by the score of 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.

Elsewhere, Bencic (14) has her match suspended with Wang due to darkness, and Kerber (15) eased passed Mladenovic in straight sets to advance to 2nd round. Tunisian powerhouse Ons Jabeur outclassed Swiss player Mirjam Bjorklund in straight sets as the world number 3 looks to make a bold statement as a major contender for this year’s Wimbledon title. The 1st round became a hoodoo for top-seeded players as the Italian player Trevisan (22) got stunned by her compatriot and unseeded Cocciaretto in straight sets. Kanepi (31) too fell short against French Diane Perry in straight sets as underdogs march on ahead. Haddad Maia (23) too fell short as collapse for top-seeds continued as she lost to Serbian Juvan 4-6, 6-4, 2-6.

World number 2 Estonian Anett Kontaveit eased past Pera of USA as she advanced to the 2nd round while barely breaking any sweat. British player Emma Raducanu too progressed in straight sets as she looks to move past her disappointing French Open earlier this year when she lost to Sasnovich in the 2nd round. The day ended with a few cancelled, suspended matches and one walkover as well as Tauson gave one after being injured and behind Japanese Hontama 1-4 in the 1st set.
