WATCH: Naomi Osaka Brought To Tears By Heckler During Her Indian Wells Tournament Defeat
The former world no.1 from Japan was brought to tears by a heckler. She said that she replayed the incident when Serena and Venus Williams were heckled in 2001.
Indian Wells Tournament: Former world no. 1 tennis player, Naomi Osaka was brought to tears by a spectator at the Indian Wells tournament. Osaka was defeated by Veronika Kudermetova in straight sets (6-0, 6-2).
The four-time grand slam champion was taunted by someone in the crowd who yelled, "Naomi, you suck", as reported by BBC.
The Japanese star waited for Veronika to finish her speech to address the crowd at the stadium. "To be honest I feel like I've been heckled before it didn't really bother me," she said.

“I’ve gotten heckled before but heckled here, I watched a video of Venus and Serena getting heckled here. If you haven’t watched it, you should watch it.”

"But, like, I've watched a video of Venus and Serena being heckled here. If you've never watched it you should watch it," she added, tearing up again.I don't know why, but it went into my head and it got replayed a lot."
Here, she was mentioning about an incident that happened in 2001 at the Indian Wells tournament when Venus Williams faced racial slurs in the semi-final while Serena went through the same in the final of the 2001 tournament. Both sisters had boycotted the tournament later.
"I'm trying not to cry," she said, as her voice broke.
"I just have to say thank you and congratulations," she added with a nod to Kudermetova. "Thank you."
Naomi Osaka's second-round loss at the Indian Wells comes after she withdrew from playing at the Wimbledon 2021.
