T20I Tri-series: Bowlers, Mandhana help India beat England in dead-rubber
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], March 29 (ANI): A terrific bowling performance from the Indian women's cricket team followed by Smriti Mandhana's significant fifty saw the home side clinch an eight-wicket win over England in the last round-robin encounter of the T20I tri-series at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.
Opting to bowl first, England were bundled out cheaply for 107 runs in their stipulated 20 overs.
Anuja Patil was the pick of the bowlers for the Indian women for his figures of three for 21, while Radha Yadav, Deepti Sharma and Poonam Yadav all chipped in with a wicket each.
Meanwhile, Pooja Vastrakar also chipped in with a wicket for the home side.
Except opener Danielle Wyatt (31), none of the England batsmen were able to contribute much to their side's innings and were failed to reach beyond 15 runs.
In reply, opener Mandhana continued her rich vein of form as she smashed an unbeaten 62 in 41 balls while skipper Harmanpreet Kaur remained unbeaten at 20 as the Indian batswomen reached the target with 4.2 overs to spare.
The match was a dead rubber as India had already crashed out of the tournament after losing their first three games--two to Australia and one to England.
England, on the other hand, made it to the finals of the tournament and will lock horns with Australia on March 31. (ANI)
