Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing the participants of the Jaipur Mahakhel tournament through video conferencing on Sunday, observed the past potential of the sports industry in the country. Modi was speaking at the closing ceremony of the competition in which over 6,400 young athletes took part from more than 450-Gram Panchayats, municipalities and wards of all the eight Legislative Assembly Regions of Jaipur Rural Lok Sabha constituency.

"Sports is a vast industry which has the potential to generate many jobs, specifically in the MSME (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises sector," he said.

"PM Vishwakarma Kaushal Samman Yojana is helping create new opportunities for small businesses," he added.

Member of Parliament from Jaipur and Olympic medallist Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore has been organising the event since 2017.  This year the tournament is focused on Kabaddi and kicked off on January 12, a date which is now observed in the country as the National Youth Day to honour the birthday of Swami Vivekananda.

"PM Kaushal Samman announced in the budget will boost self-employment. Also, all sports equipment is produced by small and medium-scale industries," PM Modi further said.

The new scheme will allow the country's craftsmen to work on their skill and maximise the reach of their goods. With the help of this scheme, they are set to be part of the MSME system.

Meanwhile, PM Modi congratulated all the athletes who participated in the event and said that there is nothing that the youth of this country can't achieve.

"Events like Khel Mahakumbh help in harnessing sporting talent. The land of Rajasthan is known for the enthusiasm and potential of its youth. As the country celebrated 75 years of Independence, the nation is creating new definitions and building new systems. Nothing is impossible to achieve for the youngsters of free India," the 72-year-old said.
