President Kovind Invites Indian Contingent Of Tokyo Olympics For ‘High Tea’ On Aug 14
President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind will host the Indian Contingent of the Tokyo Olympics over a ‘High Tea’ on August 14, 2021 at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre.
India's Olympic champions, who brought laurels to the nation in the recently-concluded Tokyo Olympics, returned home on Monday. India's medal winners received a grand welcome at the Delhi airport. The Indian athletes were successful in delivering a historic performance this year, in the Games. India won a total of seven medals including one gold, two silver medals and four bronze medals - it's best-ever performance in the history of Olympics.
The medal winners - Neeraj Chopra, Mirabai Chanu, PV Sindhu, Indian men's hockey team, Bajrang Punia, Ravi Kumar Dahiya and Lovlina Borgohain - were welcomed by top dignitaries and officials from the Sports Authority of India (SAI).
The athletes were mobbed by fans for selfies and hugs, at the airport. The crowd at the airport wanted to catch a glimpse of the Olympic champions. Later in the evening, the medal winners were facilitated by SAI at the Ashoka Hotel.

As per a press release by the Rastrapati Bhavan, President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind will host the Indian Contingent of the Tokyo Olympics over a ‘High Tea’ on August 14, 2021 at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre.
India's performance at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 was the best ever by the nation at the Games.
A 120-member Indian contingent from India had reached Tokyo for Olympics 2020. Out of this, 55 athletes qualified for the quarter-finals or more.
For the first time in history of Olympics, five Indian athletes competed for the gold medal and 40 made it to the semi-finals. The remarkable performance for Indian athletes is remarkable as it has the potential to improve the medal tally significantly in the near future. Athletes have set their eyes on the 2024 Paris Olympics with boosted confidence.
Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra's gold medal in javelin throw lifted India's spirits and also the overall rank. India finished 47th at the Tokyo Olympics 2020, the best position for the country so far.
