In a formal appeal filed at the CAS, Phogat has demanded that she be awarded a joint silver medal along with Cuba's Yusneylis Guzman Lopez, who, had lost to Vinesh but after the Indian wrestler's disqualification made her way to the gold medal bout. The morning after her heart-breaking disqualification which snatched an assured medal away from India, Vinesh Phogat announced her retiremenet from international wrestling. She said that she won't be able to continue and said that she had lost.
Harish Salve agreed to represent Vinesh Phogat in this case and given his track record, all is not lost for India and Vinesh Phogat as there remains a glimmer of hope that her plea gets accepted and she could be awarded the medal, a decision that could change the way the sport is played going forward.
