Manu Bhaker scripted history by becoming the first Indian woman shooter to win an Olympic medal, securing a bronze medal in the women's 10m air pistol event at the Paris Olympics 2024 on July 28 (Sunday). With Bhaker's bronze, India has opened its account at the Paris Olympics 2024 in a sport where they returned empty-handed in the previous two Olympic Games. After the win, Bhaker’s grandmother gave a heart-warming reaction to her granddaughter’s win and the video is making rounds on the internet.


While Bhaker was second with 50.4 points after the first 5-shot series, she dropped to third after the second 5-shot series, accumulating 100.3 points. She then hit a 10.5 in her first individual shot. After 13 shots, Bhaker had 131 points, just 0.7 points behind the top spot. And she was only 0.1 points behind Kim Ye-ji when she was eliminated in the final. In the end, the gold medal went to Oh Ye Jin, from South Korea. Silver medal too belonged to South Korea as Kim Ye-ji finished with 241.3 points.

Manu Bhaker's Grandmother Jubilant After Shooter's Bronze Medal Win


Following Manu Bhaker’s bronze win, the internet flooded with Indian supporters’ reaction and congratulatory wishes for the shooter. Bhaker’s grandmother was interviewed by ANI who expressed her jubilation on granddaughter’s show at the Paris Olympics 2024.


"I bless her. She has done a great job. We will all welcome her once she is here,” Bhaker’s grandmother said while talking to ANI.

On the first day of the Paris Olympics, Manu Bhaker secured 3rd place in the women's 10m air pistol event with a score of 580 in the qualification rounds. She also achieved the highest number of perfect scores (27) in the qualification, easily advancing to the final.
