Indian Golfer Diksha Dagar Involved In Car Accident Ahead Of Match At Paris Olympics
The Indian golfer was returning from an event to India House along with her parents and brother, when the car they were travelling in, was hit by another vehicle on Tuesday evening.
Indian golfer Diksha Dagar, who is due to participate in the Paris Olympics 2024, was involved in a car accident in Paris on July 30. However, the 30-year-old golfer is safe and is expected to compete in her event as planned.
The Indian golfer was returning from an event to India House along with her parents and brother, when the car they were travelling in, was hit by another vehicle on Tuesday evening.
"Their car was just crossing when the light turned and there was an ambulance on the side. A second car which was on the other side of the ambulance was not visible to Diksha's driver and it hit them from the side," a source told news agency PTI.
Her father and caddie Col Naren Dagar said that Diksha is fine and will play the event as per schedule from August 7. He also said that she has been going for practice.
While the golfer and her father escaped the injuries, Diksha's mother was hospitalised with a suspected injury in the spinal area. She will be in hospital for the next few days for her treatment, and the extent of her injury will be determined after further tests and diagnosis.
Her brother sustained minor scratches in the road accident.
Diksha Dagar will be participating in the Olympic Games for the second time and is set to compete in the women's golf event, starting August 7 to August 10.
Diksha Dagar was a last-minute entry at the previous Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2020, after South African golfer Paula Reto withdrew.
Diksha is the only golfer to have been a part of both Deaflympics and Olympics. She has bagged a gold in 2022 and silver in 2017 in the Deaflympics.
The men's competition got underway on Thursday, with Gaganjeet Bhullar and Shubhankar Sharma representing India.
