Mark Wood declared fit for Oval Test
London [U.K], July 19 (ANI): England paceman Mark Wood has been declared fit for the third Test of the four-match series against South Africa after scans revealed no serious injury on his left heel.
The 27-year-old was troubled by sourness while bowling during England's huge 340-run defeat in the second Test against the Faf du Plessis-led side at Trent Bridge, which also saw South Africa level the series at 1-1.
Wood, however, could be under pressure to retain his spot in the Playing XI after taking just one wicket by giving away 197 runs during the first two Tests, ESPNcricinfo reported.
The fast bowler has been hit by injuries throughout his career, with ankle problems keeping him out of Test cricket for nearly two years from October 2015 and till the first Test against South Africa at Lord's two weeks ago.
Wood's availability will come as a huge boost to England after batsman Gary Ballance was ruled out of the upcoming Test due to a fracture in his left index finger.
The two sides will play the penultimate Test from July 27 at the Oval. (ANI)
