The 'Reds' ended last season with nine consecutive league wins and, after claiming the Champions League, began the new season in an all conquering fashion to notch up a spree of wins and leave all of their rivals to fight for the second place. Liverpool FC was a dominant force in England's top flight soccer in the 70s and 80s, winning league titles on 10 occasions in England's top club division football league. .In the mid 90s, with the emergence of Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City who went onto become the powerhouses of English soccer in the next two decades, Liverpool faced some stiff competition from formidable opponents and could not quite produce the same magic they did despite having some of the best players in the league.
