Janniik Sinner and Taylor Fritz are set to face off in the US Open 2024 final on September 9 (Monday, as per the IST) in New York City after the Italian beat Britain’s Jack Draper and USA’s Fritz beat his compatriot Frances Tiafoe in their respective US Open semifinal clashes on Saturday. Sinner, the world's top-ranked player, also made history by becoming the first Italian man to reach the US Open finals. One the other hand, Fritz, by beating Tiafoe in the semis became the first American man to reach a Grand Slam final in 15 years.

Andy Roddick was the last American to reach a men's singles final at a Grand Slam, doing so at Wimbledon in 2009. He is also the last American to win a Grand Slam title, having won the US Open back in 2003. Jannik Sinner Powers Through Jack Drape In Straight-Sets Win

Coming to the Jannik Sinner vs Jack Draper semifinal, the 23-year-old world number 1 beat Jack Draper 7-5, 7-6 (3), 6-2 at the Arthur Ashe Stadium to reach the US Open 2024 final. Sinner initially took a break in the first set but had to regain his lead after Draper broke back. Sinner closed out the set with another break.

In the second set, Sinner failed to convert four break points, while Draper missed his sole opportunity. During the tie-break, Sinner surged to a 5-0 lead and finished strong despite Draper's visible discomfort, which included vomiting on the court. The third set saw Sinner dominate, breaking Draper's serve twice to seal the match. Sinner hit 43 winners and capitalised on Draper's 43 unforced errors, ending Draper's impressive run at the US Open.

Taylor Fritz First American Since 2009 To Be In Grand Slam Final

On the other hand, Taylor Fritz defeated Frances Tiafoe 4-6, 7-5, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 in a gripping US Open semifinal clash to advance to his first Grand Slam final. Fritz started strong by breaking Tiafoe early, but Tiafoe came back to win the first set.

Fritz levelled the match in the second set, breaking Tiafoe in a crucial game. Tiafoe took the third set, but Fritz rallied to win the fourth and dominated the fifth set, breaking Tiafoe twice and finishing with an ace and hence became the first American since 2009 to reach a Grand Slam final.
