MS Dhoni Set To Don CSK Jersey In IPL 2025

MS Dhoni, the five-time IPL-winning captain, is set to make a return for the IPL 2025 season. Despite fitness concerns, the 43-year-old confirmed his participation, and CSK honored his decision by retaining him. Dhoni was retained as an uncapped player for ₹4 crore, with the IPL governing body easing rules for retired players. Under the new retention rules, franchises are permitted to retain Indian players as uncapped if they have not played international cricket or held a BCCI central contract in the past five years.

Although Dhoni handed over the captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad in IPL 2024, he remained an influential figure, often helping Gaikwad set the field and guide the team from behind the stumps.

IPL 2024 was widely expected to be MS Dhoni's farewell season, but the legendary cricketer had different plans, choosing not to retire after CSK's league-stage exit. Batting primarily at No. 8, Dhoni still thrilled fans with his explosive cameos, amassing 161 runs off just 73 deliveries and ending the season with an incredible strike rate of 220.54.
