Ajinkya Rahane was included in the playing XI f or the first time in the tournament and Alex Carey made his IPL 2020 debut. Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw walked out to open the innings for their team with Boult ready to bowl the opening over the match.
Boult started good with a hint of swing on the first ball and in the second ball he succeeded to take an edge of Prithvi and end his short stay at the crease (4 runs). Prithvi Shaw had to depart early with the Kiwi speedster striking early on.

Ajinkya Rahane was the new man in, who came at the crease to bat at number three position. Pattinson shared the new ball with Boult and bowled the second over and was smashed for two boundaries in his opening over.
