Wasim Jaffer said that 41-year-old West Indies great is in good condition and he is desperate to play for the team. The Ranji legend also said that Gayle is training very well and looks great in the nets as well.
IPL 2020: Kings XI Punjab team's batting coach Wasim Jaffer believes that team's star batsman Chris Gayle and Mujeeb Zardan will get a chance in the playing XI soon. The team management does not want these players to get a chance to play when they have to win every match to make it to the playoffs.
Kings XI Punjab is currently struggling at the moment and they have lost in four of the five matches, while bowling in the death overs is also a concern for the team.
Wasim Jaffer said that KXIP's campaign so far has been disappointing, but it will take one to two games to change things. He said that for this to happen, the team needs their match-winnings players to step up and win the game.
Jaffer also asserted that Gayle and spinner Mujeeb will be seen playing soon for KXIP. Jafar said that the team management hopefully these two will be seen playing soon.
“It should happen soon. As I said, it needs to happen sooner than later. We don’t want to bring them when every game is a must win game. Hopefully, we will have those guys featuring soon,” Jaffer told PTI from Dubai.
Jaffer said that 41-year-old West Indies great is in good condition and he is desperate to play for the team. The Ranji legend also said that Gayle is training very well and looks great in the nets as well.
“Chris looks very much ready and is keen to get on to the park, he has been training really well and has looked really good in the nets.”
"He is such an impact player, we all know what he can do. I hope he turns up and turns it on straightaway and changes the tide for all of us. He looks hungry and that is a very good sign for the franchise.”

“I am hoping he plays quickly. We need match-winners, as many as as possible. Not just for the next game, also for the rest of the tournament as he can easily win you four-five games on his own,” said the former India opener.
Jaffer said that his team needs to win 7 out of nine matches to reach the top four in points table. Although this is a difficult challenge, but not impossible.
The KXIP batting coach said that Nicholas Pooran and Glenn Maxwell will definitely be in the playing eleven, so the team management have to make room for Gayle and Mujeeb. This season, Punjab have lost four out of 5 matches and they are currently at the bottom of the points table.
