Ishan Kishan Suffers Nasty Eye Injury Ahead Of WTC Final During GT vs MI IPL 2023 Qualifier 2

Ishan Kishan wasn't a first-choice pick for the summit clash of the 2021-23 cycle of the WTC but was named as a replacement for KL Rahul.

Team India were dealt with an injury scare during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 Qualifier 2 between the Gujarat Titans (GT) and Mumbai Indians (MI). During the GT innings, in quite the most unexpected manner, Mumbai's pacer Chris Jordan's elbow hit their wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan's left eye. While the injury initially did not seem serious, it was later informed that Kishan had suffered a concussion with Vishnu Vinod being announced as his concussion substitute. This could be a big of a setback for the Rohit Sharma-led Indian side that is set to take on Australia in the World Test Championship (WTC) final 2023.

Kishan wasn't a first-choice pick for the summit clash of the 2021-23 cycle of the WTC but was named as a replacement for KL Rahul. Other than Kishan, Australia too had a bit of an injury scare when Cameron Green was hit on his hand and had to leave his innings midway. However, much to the delight of Australia, Green came back to bat and played a few good shots.

Talking about the match, the knockout game between GT and MI completely belonged to Shubman Gill and Gujarat. The 23-year-old opener scored a sensational hundred, his third one of the season and one that helped his side post a mammoth 233/3 in a knock out fixture. His innings was studded with 7 fours and 10 sixes and he finished with 129 off 60 deliveries, making the highest individual score in an IPL Playoff game. The innings was later described by GT captain Hardik Pandya as one of the finest T20 knock that he has ever seen. 

While Gill's ton set up Gujarat's win, Mohit Sharma's 5/10 ensured that Gujarat register a comprehensive victory. Mohammed Shami (2/41) and Rashid Khan (2/33) were also impressive. GT will now take on the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
