Akash Ambani Explains Reason Behind Mumbai Indians Spending 8 Cr On Archer Despite His Unavailability For IPL 2022

MI's owner Akash Ambani explains the reason behind the same. He said that Archer along with Jasprit Bumrah will make a "formidable partnership" and that the English pacer "became very dear to us".

Mumbai Indians spent 8 crore rupees on English fast-bowler Jofra Archer at the IPL Mega Auction 2022. Archer is going to miss this year's IPL and will be available to play for MI in the 2023 season.

Despite his unavailability, Mumbai Indians went so far as to spend a hefty amount on the England pacer.

MI's owner Akash Ambani explains the reason behind the same. He said that Archer along with Jasprit Bumrah will make a "formidable partnership" and that the English pacer "became very dear to us".

"So, we had discussed his name previously also and of course, he (Archer) is not available this year but when he is fit and available, I believe that with (Jasprit Bumrah) he will make a formidable partnership," Akash Ambani was quoted as saying in a virtual press conference by India Today.

"We took all those into consideration. After yesterday, what the fast bowlers went at, one option became very dear to us that Jofra was the only marquee fast bowler left on the list," he added.

Zaheer Khan, also involved with the Mumbai Indians said that they are eagerly waiting for the "two legendary fast bowlers" to bowl together in the 2023 season.

"You are eagerly waiting for the partnership to go on the field and so am I. To see two legendary fast bowlers bowling in tandem and I'm glad that it seems possible and will be worth the wait," said Zaheer Khan to ANI.
