Earlier, the BCCI had announced the fixtures of the inaugural Women's Premier League. The brand new T20 competition will get underway on March 04, 2023 and conclude with the final on March 26. While the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai will host the curtain raiser to the competition, the final match will be played at the only other venue which is co-hosting the matches of the league- the Brabourne Stadium.
In all likelihood, IPL 2023 is expected to commence after the WPL final. With April 1 being a Saturday, it could be a perfect start for the cash-rich league. IPL 2023 will also see the tournament return to its home and away format this year with the competition restricted to a handful of venues in the past few seasons owing to the increased risk of transmitting COVID-19 with travelling.
With some of the franchises, like the Chennai Super Kings, set to play at their home venues after a long time, fans are expected to give an overwhelming response to the IPL coming back to their cities.
Mumbai Indains and CSK are the most successful franchises in the history of the competition with five and four titles to their credit respectively. Gujarat Titans, who participated in the competition for the first time in 2022, are the defending champions.
