Mumbai Indians are on a roll at the inaugural season of the Women's Premier League. After winning the first two matches of the competition, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side continued their fine performance in the T20 competition to beat the Delhi Capitals by 8 wickets at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Thursday and a complete a hat-trick of titles.
After being asked to have a bowl first, the Mumbai first impressed with their clinical performance with the ball as the purple-cap holder Saika Ishaque continued her great form in the tournament and returned with 3 wickets for 13 runs. Issy Wong and Hayley Matthews also picked 3 wickets each giving away 10 and 19 runs respectively to bowl out Delhi for a paltry 105.
In response, Yastika Bhatia and Matthews got Mumbai off to a bit of a flier as the Women in Blue raced to 65 runs in the 9th over before losing their first wicket as Bhatia fell to Tara Norris after scoring 41 from 32 balls. Later, Matthews too departed courtesy of a superb catch in the deep by Jemimah Rodrigues on the bowling off Alice Capsey but till then it was too late as Mumbai eased to a win with 30 balls remaining.
The result means that Mumbai are now the only unbeaten side in the tournament so far and they continue to remain at the top of the table with a 100 per cent winning rate and a net run rate of +4.228. There is no change in the position of Delhi either but they missed the chance to displace MI from the top of the table. They stay at second with 2 out of 3 wins and a net run rate of +0.965. UP Warriorz has 1 win in 3 games and is placed third whille Gujarat Giants with one win from three matches are fourth. Royal Challengers Bangalore are yet to taste a win in this competition.
