DC vs RR, IPL 2024 Highlights: Delhi Capital (DC) handed Rajasthan Royals (RR) their third defeat of the tournament as they beat them by 20 runs in the 56th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) season 2024, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on May 7 (Tuesday). Chasing 222 in 20 overs, Rajasthan Royals faced early troubles as Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed by Khaleel Ahmad on the very second ball of the innings. Sanju Samson fifty kept them in the game but after his wicket, RR could not make a comeback into the game.
Opting to bowl first, RR faced early onslaught by Jake Fraser-McGurk who scored another blazing fifty, this time off just 19 balls. However Ravichandran Ashwin struck on his second ball of the spell as he removed Fraser-McGurk. Despite the wicket, Abishek Porel continued the fast scoring and saw the team past the 100-run mark in the eighth over only. However R Ashwin claimed Porel’s wicket as well in the 13th over. However, Tristan Stubbs’ 20-ball 41 runs knock and a cameo from Gulbadin Naib saw Delhi post 221-8 after 20 overs.
Sanju Samson's Fifty In Vain As Delhi Clinch Crucial Win
In reply, Jaiswal lost his wicket on the second ball of the innings trying to go down the ground after scoring a boundary already on the first ball of Khaleel’s first over. Despite losing an early wicket, Sanju Samson and Jos Buttler kept the momentum up. Sanju Samson brought yet another fifty off just 27 balls. RR were cruising along nicely towards their target but Sanju Samson lost his wicket to Mukesh Kumar in the 16th over as he departed after scoring 86 runs off just 46 balls.
From there on, RR lost wickets at regular intervals and had too much to do in the last over as they required 29 runs off the last over. With the win, Delhi now have 12 points from 12 matches and are positioned fifth in the IPL 2024 points table.
