Virat Kohli played some good shots throughout his innings against Gujarat but looked under a bit of pressure. However, by scoring a fifty, he has shown signs of a much-awaited comeback.
New Delhi: Former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar, one of the finest batters of his generation, said Virat Kohli's half-century against Gujarat Titans on Saturday in the Indian Premier League will help him boost his confidence as well as that of his team Royal Challengers Bangalore. RCB have so far won five out of their 10 matches in the IPL.
Virat scored 58 runs off 53 balls, which was his first half-century in IPL 2022. Before his fifty against Gujarat Titans, Virat was struggling to score runs as he even registered consecutive golden ducks. There was immense pressure on Kohli to score runs in this match.
Kohli played some good shots throughout his innings against Gujarat but looked under a bit of pressure. However, by scoring a fifty, he has shown signs of a much-awaited comeback.
"It was a knock that he needed, it was a knock that RCB wanted as well. Once you get going and get a fifty, it augurs well for the remaining matches as well. Your main man is hitting the ball cleanly, the feet are moving into position quite nicely. It's a confidence-building inning. Definitely, as far as the RCB is concerned, they will be very, very happy," Gavaskar said while speaking to Star Sports about Kohli's knock.
"To be perfectly honest, at the start of the match, he would be slotted in at No. 3 because he hasn't had that much experience. On the other hand, Shahbaz has been in good form and he is a left-hander. But Rajat Patidar was outstanding, absolutely top-class. He justified the RCB team management's tactics," he added.
Virat Kohli's fifty went in vain as Gujarat defeated Bangalore by six-wickets to jump to top spot in IPL 2022 points table. GT is on teh verge of becoming the 1st team in IPL 2022 to qualify for the playoffs.
