Team India Fined For Slow Over-Rate During India vs West Indies 1st ODI

The fine was imposed by ICC Elite Panel match referee Richie Richardson for bowling one over short within India's stipulated time.

New Delhi: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has fined Team India 20 percent of their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate during the first ODI of the series against the West Indies. Indian captain Shikhar Dhawan has accepted the penalty. "India have been fined 20 per cent of their match fee for slow over-rate in the first ODI against West Indies at Port of Spain on Friday," an ICC statement said.

The fine was imposed by ICC Elite Panel match referee Richie Richardson for bowling one over short within India's stipulated time.

Under Article 2.22 (regarding the minimum over-rate) of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Associate Members of the Team, if the team fails to bowl the stipulated overs within the stipulated time, the players will be charged 20% of their match fees for each over.

In the first match of the three-match series played against West Indies, Team India won by 3 runs to take a 1-0 lead. Chasing the target of 309 runs, hosts West Indies could only manage 305 runs in 50 overs for the loss of 6 wickets. The hero of India's victory was captain Shikhar Dhawan, who played an innings of 97 runs. Mohammed Siraj played an important role in India's win by taking two wickets and bowling the deciding 50th over.
