'Were You Discussing Rivers Of Bangladesh..': Reporter Argues With Shakib After Loss Against India. Watch

ICC T20 WC 2022, IND vs BANG: Shakib said that his team could win this match after a brilliant start, but it could not happen.

After losing the T20 World Cup match to India in a rain-hit thriller, Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan faced an unusual question during the post-match press conference when a reporter asked the skipper whether he tried to “not play” after the rain. The Indian team outplayed Bangladesh by five runs in a rain-affected Super 12 encounter in Adelaide on Wednesday. After batting first, India posted 184/6 in 20 overs. KL Rahul and Virat Kohli starred with the bat as both the batters smashed half-centuries. The Men in Blue are now placed at the top of the Group 2 table.

Here's How The Entire Chat Between The Reporter And Shakib Panned Out:

"Bad luck Shakib, did you not try and play after the rain? What was the discussion that was going through?" the journalist asked initially.

"Did we have any option?" Shakib replied.

"No option, but did you try and convince them?”"the journalist continued.

"Convince whom?" Shakib replied.

"Umpires and, of course, Rohit Sharma," the journalist said.

"Do I have the ability to convince the umpires?" Shakib said.

“Then you were discussing the rivers of Bangladesh? What were you talking to the umpires?" the journalist asked.

"Now you are asking the right questions. Umpires called us and told us about the revised target, the playing rules, and the number of overs we would play," Shakib said.

"And you all accepted it?" the journalist asked.

"Yes (in a surprised tone)," Shakib added.

“Beautiful, thank you,” the journalist signed off.

Shakib also reckoned that Bangladesh should have achieved the target after Liton Das took them off to a flying start at the Adelaide Oval.

"Rain isn't in our hands, so we had to play after accepting it. We needed around 84 runs in the last nine overs, and in such conditions, most teams would get the target. Unfortunately, we were very close, but not close enough," Shakib stated.

Shakib said that his team could win this match after a brilliant start, but it could not happen.

"It has been the story when we play against India. We are almost there but we never finish the line. It was a good game of cricket, the crowd enjoyed it and both teams enjoyed it, and that's what we want. In the end, someone has to win and someone has to lose," said Shakib in the post-match presentation ceremony.

After the end of the match, in a conversation with well -known commentator Harsha Bhogle, he described the team's opener Liton Das as his best batsman.

Talking about Das' batting efforts, Shakib remarked, "Litton is batting really well, probably he's our best batsman going around. We thought we could chase this down after that start."

He said that his team wants to enjoy this World Cup and he is hopeful that he will be able to do so even further.
