Veteran India Pacer Jhulan Goswami Becomes Highest Wicket-Taker In Women's World Cup History

Jhulan Goswami became highest wicket-taker in Women's World Cup by surpassing ex-Australian player Lynn Fullston, who took a total of 39 wickets in the Women's World Cup, between 1982 and 1988.

New Delhi: India Women's cricket team fast bowler Jhulan Goswami scripted history on Saturday against West Indies at Seddon Park in Hamilton. She attained a big feat in the 10th match of the ICC Women's World Cup. Jhulan became the highest wicket-taker in the Women's World Cup. After dismissing Anissa Mohammad during Ind vs WI WC game, she completed 40 wickets in the World Cup.

Jhulan achieved this record by surpassing ex-Australian player Lynn Fullston, who took a total of 39 wickets in the Women's World Cup, between 1982 and 1988.

After winning the toss, India opted to bat first. Yastika Bhatia (31) and Smriti Mandhana gave their team a quick start.

Mithali Raj, who came to bat after the fall of Yastika's wicket, returned to the pavilion cheaply after scoring 5 and Deepti Sharma scored just 15 runs. Despite a good start, India was now in big trouble as they lost their three wickets quickly for 78 runs.

Harmanpreet Kaur then steadied India's sinking ship with Mandhana by getting a solid partnership to power their team to a 300-run plus total in the World Cup for the first time. This is Harmanpreet Kaur's third century in the World Cup and she has become the first Indian woman player to do so, while Mandhana scored her second century in the World Cup.

In reply, Deandra Dottin and Hayley Matthews stitched a solid 100 runs partnership for the first wicket as Windies were off to a flyer start.

However, Sneh Rana picked two quick wickets to push Windies on backfoot, who then continued to lose wickets at regular intervals. India eventually bundled up Windies for 162. For India, Sneh Rana and Meghna Singh took three and two wickets respectively.
