India were supposed to beat Wales with an eight-goal difference in their last Pool D match to qualify quarter-finals directly but a below-par show from the hosts ensured that they finished the match 4-2. The Men in Blue will now have to beat New Zealand, which finished third in Pool C, to enter the Hockey World Cup 2023 quarter-finals.
