With both the Mercedes cars seeming in a rather comfortable position to finish the race in 1-2 after leading the Grand Prix all the way till the penultimate lap, there was a twist towards the end at Silverstone with both Hamilton and Bottas suffering tyre problems in the closing lap leading to a dramatic finish at the British Grand Prix on Sunday.

Mercedes front-line F-1 driver and defending Formula One Champion Lewis Hamilton clinched a record seventh British Grand Prix at the Silverstone race circuit in dramatic fashion after his car suffered a last lap tyre puncture. While Hamilton held on to cross the chequered flag just ahead of Red Bull's Max Verstappen to win the race and extended his Formula One World Championship lead to 30 points, his Mercedes team mate Bottas dropped from second to eleventh place and had to finish outside the points after being in a dominant after he limped to the finish line in an astonishing climax to a race he had dominated from pole position. kok Red Bull's Max Verstappen just missed out on winning the race as his team's strategy to pit in fresh tryes in a bid to steal an extra point for the fastest lap ended him finishing second behind Hamilton, with Ferrari's Charles Leclerc third. Hamilton and Bottas had been formation flying for 50 of the 52 laps until tyre drama struck, as per a report on Formula One's official website. Bottas was the first to suffer as a flat tyre on one of the wheels on Lap 50 and it led to him squandering off not his lead but also his second place. McLaren's Carlos Sainz also overcame a slip up as a last lap tyre glitch saw him eventually come home P13 after he was on course to finish fourth, allowing Renault's Daniel Ricciardo to claim fourth, following a late pass on the sister McLaren of Lando Norris. Renault's Esteban Ocon was engaged in a long battle with the Racing Point of Lance Stroll and eventually finished sixth with Pierre Gasly finishing seventh for AlphaTauri. Alex Albon finished eighth for Red Bull, having recovered from a Lap 1 battle with the Haas of Kevin Magnussen that saw him fall to last, while Lance Stroll and Sebastian Vettel rounded out the top 10
