Pele To Spend Christmas In Hospital As Cancer Worsens, Kidneys And Heart Affected

Pele was admitted to hospital on November 29 and continues to remain under medical supervision.

Brazilian football legend Pele's health has worsened while he is hospitalised for his cancer treatment. The same has reportedly been confirmed by his medical staff as well as family members. In addition, the 82-year-old is also suffering from heart and kidney ailments.

The Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo, Brazil said that the legendary footballer "requires greater care related to renal and cardiac dysfunctions." In the same statement, the medial staff has said that his cancer has shown "progression", however, Pele remains out of Intensive care.

Arguably, one of the greatest footballers to have ever played the game, Pele was admitted to the hospital on November 29 for an assessment of how he was reacting to the chemotherapy treatments, which he has been receiving since September 2021 when he underwent a surgery to remove a colon tumor.

Diego is smiling now: Pele

Despite these reports surfacing regularly, Pele has assured that he is doing fine. In fact, in a social media post after Argentina's historic FIFA World Cup win in the finals over France, Pele congratulated Albiceleste, even going on to say that Diego Maradona would be smiling. He even made a special mention for Kylian Mbappe who he called his "dear friend."

Pele even made a special mention to Morocco who became the first team from Africa to reach the semifinals of the FIFA World Cup.

"Today, football continues to tell its story, as always, in an enthralling way. Messi winning his first World Cup, as his trajectory deserved. My dear friend, Mbappé, scoring four goals in a final. What a gift it was to watch this spectacle to the future of our sport," he had captioned a picture from Argentina's celebration.
