Kylian Mbappe Suffers Major Nose Injury In Austria vs France UEFA EURO 2024 Match

Kylian Mbappe broke his nose due to a violent collision with Austrian Kevin Danso during the Austria vs France EURO 2024 match.

France clinched a 1-0 win over Austria in their first UEFA Euro 2024 match on June 17 (Monday), but the victory was marred by a major injury to star player Kylian Mbappe. Mbappe suffered a violent collision when his head struck the shoulder of Austrian defender Kevin Danso during an aerial challenge for the ball. The star striker exited the pitch in the 90th minute with blood flowing from his nose.

Despite efforts from medical staff to stop the bleeding with a nose plug, they were unsuccessful. When Mbappe stood up and cameras captured his face, his nose appeared severely misshapen.

Mbappe returned to the pitch but was subsequently booked by the referee for delaying the game. Eventually, he was substituted by Olivier Giroud, and France maintained their lead to secure a 1-0 victory.

France coach Didier Deschamps stated that the team will monitor the developments regarding Mbappe's injury.

"He has got a really bad nose, We'll have to wait and see, the medical staff are dealing with it. We'll have to see what's going to be done and then how long it will take. It is very bad news for us tonight," Deschamps said.

French Football Federation Provides Update on Kylian Mbappe's Injury

After the incident, the French Football Federation (FFF) provided an update on Mbappe's condition, announcing that the captain had sustained a nose fracture, as reported by journalist Fabrizio Romano.

“Kylian Mbappé returns to the base camp of the French national team. Kylian Mbappé suffered a broken nose during the second part of the Austria-France held this Monday in Düsseldorf. The captain of France was treated first by the medical staff and Dr. Franck Le Gall, who diagnosed him with a nose fracture. Mbappé will receive treatment in the next few days, but he will not undergo surgery in the immediate future. A mask will be made for him so that the number 10 of the French national team can prepare for his return to the competition after a period dedicated to treatment,” conveyed the FFF as per a Tweet by Fabrizio Romano.

Mbappe himself took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) and asked, "Any ideas for masks?"
