Kylian Mbappe Breaks Unwanted Record With Flop Show On El Clasico Debut As Real Madrid Suffer 4-0 Embarrassment Against Barcelona

Kylian Mbappe, the man who was supposed to be the star for the hosts on his El Clasico debut had a forgettable outing, one which he would want to put behind him as early as possible.

Real Madrid and FC Barcelona faced off each other in the season's first El-Clasico at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in Madrid on Saturday. It was one of the most anticipated El Clasico fixtures in many years with the number 1 FC Barcelona takig on number 2 Madrid. However, it turned out to be a massive disappointment for the home team as they went on to lose 0-4.

Kylian Mbappe, the man who was supposed to be the star for the hosts on his El Clasico debut had a forgettable outing, one which he would want to put behind him as early as possible. Mbappe failed to score in the match and even worse, he was caught offside as many as eight times which is now the record for the most number of off sides by a player in Europe's top five leagues. The previous record was also held by a former Real Madrid and France star- Karim Benzema who had been caught off side in a match against Eibar in November 2018.

Mbappe Needed A Better Finishing Touch: Ancelotti

Meanwhile, Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti admitted that they were not able to take advantage despite knowing that Barca played with a high line. He even said that their star player Mbappe needed better finishing touches on the day.

"We knew that they played with a high line, and we just couldn’t take advantage of it," Ancelotti said.

"Sometimes (Mbappe) fell offside, but he had three or four chances to score and needed a better finishing touch," he added.

Referring to Robert Lewandowski's brace, Ancelotti said that his successive goals in the second half pushed them on the backfoot.

"When they scored those back-to-back goals it took the energy out of us. This is a complicated moment for us. It hurts to lose a game and especially after going 42 games unbeaten, but we shouldn’t just throw everything away because this team will play better," said Ancelotti.
