Kylian Mbappe Breaks PSG's All-Time Goal Record In Win Over Nantes
Mbappe had equalled the previous record set by Edinson Cavani (200 goals) when he had scored a brace in the team's victory over Marseille last week.
World Cup winner with France and Paris Saint-Germain's talismanic striker Kylian Mbappe broke the club's all-time goal-scoring record when he netted the team's 201st goal in The Parisians beat the Nantes in a Ligue 1 fixture on Saturday. While Mbappe had equalled the previous record set by Edinson Cavani (200 goals) when he had scored a brace in the team's victory over Marseille last week, he went past that mark when he found the back of the net in the stoppage time.
The current French League toppers initially took a 2-goal lead with the help of a strike from star Argentine Lionel Messi and an own goal from Jaouen Hadjam, 13th placed Nantes found a way to come back into the match with the help of goals from Ludovic Blas and Ignatius Ganago, all in an action-packed first-half.
However, in the latter half of the match, PSG came to their own and even reaped the rewards for the same with a 60th minute strike from Danilo Pereira and the record-shattering winner from Mbappe, the goal which sealed a 4-2 result in their favour.
Earlier this week, Mbappe had lost The Best FIFA Men's Player Of The Year 2022 award to his club teammate Lionel Messi. Both the stars were up against each other at the FIFA World Cup 2022 finals in Qatar but eventually it was Argentina who had clinched the prestigious trophy and fittingly its captain got the The Best Men's recognition after scoring a brace in the summit clash before scoring in the shootout.
Having said that one of the hottest properties in world football, Mbappe at 24, also did all that he could to help his side clinch the title scoring a historic hat-trick in the final before scoring in the penalty shootout but his team came second, perhaps that's what took the Men's Best Player Award away from him.
