Family And Neighbours Celebrate Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu's Gold Win At CWG 2022
Soon after Mirabai Chanu's gold win, her family and neighbours in Nongpok Kakching burst into celebration late at night.
New Delhi: Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu claimed her first gold medal with a combined lift of 201 kg in the Women's 49 kg final at the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham on Saturday. Back home, in Manipur, her family and neighbours celebrated this proud achievement at her native place Nongpok Kakching.

Speaking to ANI, her mother Tombi Devi, said that she felt restless the night before and couldn’t sleep.
"Since yesterday I have been offering prayers for her and finding myself restless, I couldn't sleep. I had apprehensions about whether she will win or not, as she was sick. Till now I was feeling so anxious for her and had thoughts going on in my mind of all kinds. Her winning has made me relaxed," the mother told ANI.

"I feel so happy. She won a gold medal at CWG 2022. I had cried in my heart after her victory. Everyone is rejoicing over her victory including her sisters, friends and family members," she added.
Meanwhile, her cousin, Binoy said that he knew they were going to win the gold medal.
"We were very happy. Our whole family was sitting together watching the game today. Mirabai won gold. She always has had a lot of power and morale. We already knew she would win a gold medal," he told ANI.
After her victory, Chanu said the next big target will be the World Championships in December.
Asked how she would celebrate, Chanu told PTI that it would happen once she reaches India. For the night, she will finally gorge on a pizza without the fear of gaining weight.
