Pakistan suffered a 5-wicket loss against England in the T20 World Cup 2022 final. Pakistan had a very ordinary run in the Super 12 stage and were almost out of the tournament before underdogs Netherland attained a shock win over Proteas. Pakistan made it to the final after beating New Zealand in semis. On the other hand, England qualified for the summit clash by handing a humiliating 10-wicket loss to India in semis. In the T20 World Cup 2022 final, England proved to be too good for the Men in Green.
Notably, Pakistan's star pacer Shaheen Afridi getting injured during the match turned out to be the game-changer for England. Even captain Babar Azam admitted the same, after the match got over.
"Congratulations to England, they deserve to be champions and fought well. We felt like home here, got great support at every venue. Thanks for your support. Yes, we lost the first two games but how we came in the last four games was incredible. I just told the boys to play our natural game, but we fell 20 runs short and the boys fought well with the ball. Our bowling is one of the best attacks in the world. Unfortunately, Shaheen's injury put us off, but that's part of the game," Babar Azam said after the match.
