World Cup 2019: Jason Roy knocks down umpire Joel Wilson on reaching his ton against Bangladesh

Roy became the third English player in the ongoing Cricket World Cup to hit a ton but there was a comedy of errors as the English opener reached the milestone.

Jason Roy struck a brilliant century to power England to a record breaking total against Bangladesh in their World Cup encounter in Cardiff on Saturday. Roy's whirlwind century laid a solid platform for England as they look to continue their good momentum in the World Cup after a narrow loss to Pakistan in their second game. Roy became the third English player in the ongoing Cricket World Cup to hit a ton but there was a comedy of errors as the English opener reached the milestone. Roy was facing seamer Mustafizur Rahman in the 27th over and on the fifth delivery, he pulled a short ball and set off for a single but a misfield allowed him get to the landmark in 92 deliveries. Roy was so busy looking at the fielder that he didn't see umpire Joel Wilson at the other end and crashed into him, knocking the umpire down flat on the ground. Roy accomplished quite a few milestones on getting to the triple figure mark against Bangladesh. Roy became the fifth fastest batsman in the world to score 9 ODI hundreds in his 77th innings behind Hashim Amla (52), Quinton de Kock (53), Babar Azam (61) and Shikhar Dhawan (72). This is the third hundred by an England batsman in this tournament which is the most in any World Cup. Before Roy, Joe Root and Jos Buttler had scored tons in the last match against Pakistan but still ended up on the losing side. Root was the first batsman to reach triple figures in World Cup 2019 and went on to score 107 while Buttler scored 103 but England still fell short of the 349-run target by 14 runs. Roy had flopped in that game scoring just 8 runs while he also had a horrible time in the field, having dropped a catch and even misfielded on a few occasions.
