WI vs PAK, ICC World Cup 2019, Toss: West Indies opt to field; Lewis, Gabriel miss out
Pakistan skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed hopes his side will draw inspiration from when they were in a similar position in Champions Trophy 2017
Pakistan would be hoping for a fresh start when they lock horns with West Indies in ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 on Friday at Trent Bridge. They have lost their past ODIs and their problems were further compounded when they went down to outsiders Afghanistan by three wickets in a warm-up match.
However, skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed hopes his side will draw inspiration from when they were in a similar position in Champions Trophy 2017.
On the other hand, the Caribbean men are riding high on confidence as they mustered 421 runs in the warm-up match to maul New Zealand. Jason Holder & Co have had toiled to get the World Cup ticket but the way they started their campaign on the English soil, it’s a warning for the opponents that they are can turn the tables any moment.
Toss Update:
West Indies have won the toss and they will be batting first. They have benched Evin Lewis and Shannon Gabriel as they are unfit and have fielded 5 seamers and a spinner.
“We will field first. I don't think conditions are going to change much. Hopefully, we will get some movement and we will get some early wickets. We had a good camp and two decent warm-up matches,” said Jason Holder at the toss.
Pakistan take the field with the veteran pacers Wahab Riaz and Mohammad Amir along with leading spinners Imad Wasim, Shadab Khan.
“We wanted to field first because of the moisture on the wicket and overcast conditions. It doesn't matter, if we survive the first few overs then it will be a good pitch. Our batters are in good form. We announced our twelve yesterday so out of that Asif Ali is not playing. We have experience in our bowling line-up and I have confidence in my bowlers,” said Sarfraz at the toss.
Here are the teams:
Pakistan: Imam-ul-Haq, Fakhar Zaman, Babar Azam, Haris Sohail, Mohammad Hafeez, Sarfaraz Ahmed(w/c), Imad Wasim, Shadab Khan, Hasan Ali, Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Amir
West Indies: Chris Gayle, Shai Hope(w), Darren Bravo, Shimron Hetmyer, Nicholas Pooran, Andre Russell, Jason Holder(c), Carlos Brathwaite, Ashley Nurse, Sheldon Cottrell, Oshane Thomas
