Why Shakib Al Hasan Isn't Playing India vs Bangladesh ICC Cricket World Cup Match In Pune
Shakib Al Hasan is currently ranked number one on the ICC ODI Rankings for All-Rounders and has been the mainstay batsman for Bangladesh for a long while.
Shakib Al Hasan injury update: The India-Bangladesh showdown is underway at the ICC Men's ODI Cricket World Cup 2023! With three consecutive victories, team Indian, led by Rohit Sharma, are aiming for a fourth win. Bangladesh are missing their regular captain Shakib Al Hasan in the match against India, with Najmul Hossan Shanto leading the team in Shakib Al Hasan's absence.
Just before the toss, it was revealed that Shakib Al Hasan would not be participating in the match against India. Najmul Hossain Shanto, who decided to bat in the Cricket World Cup match against India, mentioned that Shakib Al Hasan is 'struggling a bit' and, as a result, will be absent from the game.
"Proud moment for me and my family. We'd like to bat today. Looks a fresh wicket. If we put some good score, it'll be good for the team. He (Shakib) is struggling a bit, Nasum is coming in for him. We have some great memories against India, hopefully we continue our form. I hope it'll be a great match. We love to see the crowd, hopefully they'll support both teams. Hasan comes in for Taskin," Najmul Hossain Shanto stated during the toss.
Bangladesh coach Chandika Hathurusingha provided an update on skipper Shakib Al Hasan on Wednesday. Shakib sustained an injury while running during their previous match. Although he completed his ten overs, it was evident that he was in discomfort. Following the match, he did not appear for the post-match interaction.
During the pre-match press conference, Hathurusingha was asked about the availability of the experienced all-rounder, to which he responded, "If he is not ready to play, we won't risk him. But if he's ready, then there's a chance of him playing tomorrow."
"He had a good batting session yesterday and did a little bit of running between the wickets. We did a scan today, so we are waiting for the results. At the moment he is okay. We haven't tried with bowling yet. So, he will come tomorrow morning and we will assess him again and then make a decision," Hathurusingha added.
Shakib Al Hasan is currently ranked number one on the ICC ODI Rankings for All-Rounders and has been the mainstay batsman for Bangladesh for a long while.
“That is a massive blow for Bangladesh,” said the English commentator Nasser Hussain on air after the toss.
After being asked to bowl, Bumrah started the innings beautifully for India giving just 13 runs in his 4 overs.
